The kids who dance on Banbury Cross Morris and their parents love it! Some of the many reasons are:

  • The dancing is fun! The dances involve jumping around, hitting each other’s sticks with their sticks, and sometimes even throwing sticks to each other.
  • The dances are impressive and are appreciated by their friends and family.
  • The dances are actually not hard to learn, even for kids who sometimes have a hard time with things that require coordination.
  • Kids on Banbury Cross Morris range in age from 9 years old through high school. They work together, support each other and make each other feel welcome and valued regardless of age differences.
  • Banbury Cross Morris is a safe and inclusive space where all kids, including LGBTQ+ kids, kids with ADHD, and neurodivergent kids, can be themselves and can be liked and appreciated by their peers.
  • The kids are taught to take ownership of as many aspects of running the team as they are able. Among other things, this involves managing the program when they perform, including choosing the dances and assigning dancers to positions in the dance. (The kids do this more equitably than many adult morris teams!)
